Beyond and Rayman Headline Free Playstation Plus Games For May

It’s already been another month and Sony has revealed the next set of free games for Playstation Plus for the month of May. This month is a decent set of games depending on whether you already own them or not. Beyond: Two Souls is a decent way to get ready for Quantic Dream’s upcoming Detroit: Become Human (they like they’re colons) although some critics consider it to be a weaker entry for the company.

Rayman Legends is a sequel to Rayman Origins and is a great platformer. Playstation 3 has a couple decent games this month as well with Eat Them! Turning out to be a fairly deep action game with customizable monsters. Vita rounds out the month with a couple oddball games (pun may have been intended) in King Oddball and Furmins. King Oddball is the only game with cross buy this month for PS3 and Vita.

PS4

Beyond: Two Souls

Rayman Legends

PS3

Do you see any games that look enticing? I think this will be a good time for me personally to play Beyond: Two Souls as I missed out on that one. What do you think of the Plus games for next month?

Is Dragon Quest Returning To PlayStation?

Veteran PlayStation RPG fans have been hoping to see the return of this franchise for over a decade.

We haven't seen a Dragon Quest on a PlayStation platform since 2004's extremely well-received DQVIII; after that, the franchise gravitated to Nintendo platforms.

But maybe after 10+ years, PlayStation followers will finally get another Dragon Quest entry. The translation is wonky but according to this source , the iconic role-playing series is far from done and the next announcement could just involve PlayStation. Yuji Horii says "something might be announced in the future," so I suppose we can all cross our fingers.

Heck, I'd be happy if it came to Vita. In fact, I think it should come to the Vita, as that platform is in desperate need of a high-profile game for hardcore RPG fanatics. What do you think?

Uncharted For PlayStation 4 Spotted At GameStop Germany

We all know it's coming at some point, but it hasn't been officially announced just yet.

That doesn't stop us from checking around to see if various retail outlets have decided to post something about a new Uncharted for the PlayStation 4. That's exactly what the GameStop Germany website did, as you can see.

It just says "Uncharted" for PS4 and there are no additional details. But the fact that the title exists at all might say something. There's the possibility that the latest installment in the award-winning franchise will be announced very soon, and prospective PS4 owners are looking forward to that day. Naughty Dog delivered another elite exclusive IP this year in The Last Of Us and now that that's out the door, one would have to assume the new Uncharted is already in the works.

Rumor was that in fact, it was in the works during development on TLoU, and the developer split up teams to work on both titles. Well, whatever, just bring us another unbelievable Drake adventure!

Pachter: An Activision Sale Improbable, A “Spinoff” Likely

The problem is obvious: $8 billion is a sh** ton of money.

Last week, it was reported that Telecom giant Vivendi was looking to sell their share of Activision Blizzard . And because the French conglomerate owns 61% of the world's biggest video game publisher, they might be looking for $8.1 billion.

At the time, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter said if Vivendi couldn't locate a buyer, they'd have to try to unload their shares on the open market. He has recently added to those comments in an investor note, in which he says that although a sale is the "preferred route" for Vivendi, there are no "readily apparent buyers."

He says that while some big game-related purchases have been made in the past, no deal has ever come close to reaching the astronomical numbers proposed with Activision. Furthermore, he notes that acquisitions by EA, Time Warner, and Disney typically stay below $1 billion, which is still a far cry from $8 billion. As for the console manufacturers, Pachter says they wouldn't want to "cannibalize" the franchise; one of the reasons CoD is the biggest name in gaming today is because it's available on multiple platforms. Heck, I coulda told you that.

So what's most likely? Well, the analyst says this could result in a "spinoff of Activision Blizzard," which would require some "fancy financing" but would manage to give Vivendi $5 billion in cash. And by the way, if you're looking into stocks, Activision might be a good idea, as their shares would rise by how much cash the company generates every year.

Sony Expects Big Numbers From Prologue

How big does Sony expect Gran Turismo 5: Prologue to be? Well, once it releases this week in Japan, they're really anticipating quite the explosion, both in online Store downloads and regular retail purchases.

According to a Google translation from this Japanese website , Sony is hoping to see around 50,000 downloads during the first week Prologue is available on the PlayStation Store, and a few hundred thousand (400,000, if we're reading that translation correctly) in total Blu-Ray retail sales. Those are optimistic numbers, to be sure, but bear in mind one thing- Gran Turismo may be even bigger in Japan than it is here, which officially makes the franchise a mega-blockbuster in the land of the Rising Sun. The retail version of the demo will go for 4,980 yen while the downloadable version will cost 4,500 yen…we'll hopefully be seeing our version on February 19, provided recent reports are accurate.

Of course, you won't have to wait to get our impressions on this massive demo masquerading as a full title; we should have our thoughts on the Japanese Gran Turismo 5: Prologue not long after its release. European gamers may have to wait even longer for this product, as it doesn't arrive in the PAL regions until March, so make sure you read our mini-review!

Store And Network “Update” Just Maintenance

Yes, we were all a little excited about what that maintenance and upgrade work for the Store and Network would bring us, but as it turns out, there wasn't much in the way of "upgrading." According to a recent report from Play France and summarized at N4G , it was nothing more than plain ol' maintenance.

However, we weren't completely left out in the cold. There's a new trailer for Gran Turismo HD that features the sweet-looking Nissan Xanavi Nismo Z, and that should help to satisfy GT fans. Also, there is the possibility that there's more to this than meets the eye, especially if Sony is preparing something for the Japanese Store…which we haven't checked yet, but supposedly doesn't sport anything new, either.

Yeah, it's a little disappointing, but the Store is still doing just fine. We can always wait for more enhancements in the months to come.
